Assessment

Assessment

Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System - In a 1st Grade General Education classroom, students' independent reading levels were assessed using Running Records.

These assessments were given at three intervals throughout the school year. I used color coding to assist in tracking student progress and grouping students appropriately and flexibly.

Constructive Feedback

Reading Comprehension - In the 4th Grade unit "Reading with the Lens of Power and Perspective" students listen to the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio read aloud. Students follow along in the book, participate in discussions, and respond in writing to teacher-created prompts based on the section read aloud.

Students learn that when they get to know a character so well, they deeply understand not just the characters' traits but also what causes them to act and react in the ways that they do. Students can see things through the character's eyes to understand the world as they do and understand a character's perspective. When writing their responses, students make sure to answer all questions asked and use examples from the text.
