Classroom Management

Responsive Classroom

Expectations & Classroom Agreements - At the beginning of the year, teachers and students collaborate to create a set of expectations for how to behave in the classroom to enable all students to reach their goals. Each member of the classroom community agrees to the established expectations, which are then displayed in the classroom and reviewed as needed.

Hopes & Dreams - To start the school year, students are invited to think about who they are and reflect on their interests and goals. Students share their hopes and dreams as learners and as members of the classroom community.

Hand Signals

Students help ensure a classroom runs smoothly by putting up a different number of fingers or a hand sign to indicate a specific need/meaning.

Classroom Jobs

Students are responsible for completing specific jobs in the classroom to gain independence and accountability.

Quiet Critters

Quiet Critters - A fun strategy that encourages students to work quietly and independently. This tool is used to signal that students are following expectations and working quietly. Since these creatures don't like loud noises and love to watch children learning, they remind students to focus on their work and manage the noise level for their quiet new friends.
